What is an Integrative-Holistic Wellness Nurse?

  • An Integrative-Holistic Wellness combines traditional, complementary and alternative health services that focuses on the facilitation of healing in mind, body and spirit while helping others to achieve wholeness, balance and harmony for optimal health and well-being. At Design and Wellness Center, an integrative-holistic wellness nurse may utilize holistic healing modalities from both Western and Eastern practices such as Yoga, meditation breathwork, energy healing, Reiki, sound healing, health and wellness coaching and spiritual counseling as defined by the appropriate training and competence in said practice and can function independently (without a doctors order) within the scope of nursing and holistic nursing practices.

What is Functional Medicine Coaching?

  • Functional medicine coaching underlies our holistic nursing framework that takes into account the root cause of suffering, disease and illness. We consider the client as a whole and unique being (mind, body and spirit) which is often underutilized in modern-traditional healthcare settings. We coach clients on various holistic practices including stress management, healthy-balanced lifestyle behaviors, healthy food choices, environmental and toxic exposure prevention, relaxation techniques. All of these elements have a direct correlation with optimal health. Through our holistic and functional approach we have personally witnessed many clients overcome anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances, fertility issues, autoimmune and chronic diseases reversed or better managed (heart disease, diabetes etc), lowered pain/inflammation, lowered blood pressure and heart rhythms harmonized, reduced asthma, eczema and allergy flair-ups, boosted immunity and vitality and more!

Do you accept insurance for your integrative wellness services?

  • We are not accepting insurance at this time. Services are paid in full and out of pocket by the client. We do offer affordable treatment plans and monthly subscriptions.

Frequently Asked Questions (Energy Healing, Reiki & Yoga)

What is Reiki?

  • Reiki is not a massage or body work. It is a Japanese form of energy healing for stress reduction and relaxation and brings the energies of the body back into alignment. Reiki works with all systems and the more subtle energies of the body. It is deeply relaxing and restoring and can offer long-term benefits. It is an evidence-based-healing technique that also promotes healing for the mind, body, soul and spirit in conjunction with traditional medicine.

What can I expect during a Reiki session?

  • Before your healing session, we will discuss areas of concern. You will complete an intake form, client consent and confidentiality agreement. During the session you will relax on a massage table, fully clothed, and experience the energy work. I will place my hands slightly above the body where energy can flow to you as the recipient. I will ask you to take a few deep, relaxing breaths before the session starts. A typical session runs about 60 minutes and sometimes up to 90 minutes. Most clients will require more than one Reiki session for optimal benefits.

What can I expect to feel during a Reiki session?

  • During the session, you might notice a warming sensation in certain areas. In other areas, you might not notice anything at all. Even if you come in with a particular problem area, you may experience a sense of relaxation that affects your whole body. You might even fall asleep during the session.

How will I feel after a Reiki session?

  • Every person who tries Reiki has a different experience. Your experience from session to session can vary as well. Many people report feeling a sense of calm in their bodies. Others report reduced pain or a clearer mind. Some people say they notice old symptoms resurfacing in a sort of “healing reaction,” but those symptoms pass quickly. Most clients will require more than one Reiki session for optimal benefits.

Which conditions respond to Reiki?

  • Reiki can help heal imbalances ranging from the physical to the emotional and spiritual, Reiki is a holistic approach to well-being and involves healing from the inside out.

  • Many people turn to Reiki to relieve stress and anxiety. Reiki therapy helps support the body’s natural healing mechanisms and may even reduce the side effects of medications, chemotherapy, radiation etc, however Reiki is not a one-size fits all approach and works differently for each person. You should always discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider. Reiki is never a replacement for traditional medical treatments, medications or psychotherapy.

  • Reiki is an ancient and holistic healing technique that stimulates the relaxation response and the body's own capacity to heal physically and energetically by removing stagnant and blocked energy. The body's natural healing capacity is compromised through various environmental, psychological and physical process including chronic inflammation, sedentary lifestyles and a lack of movement, poor diet and sleep, illness, certain medications, stress, trauma, chemical and environmental toxins etc.

  • During a healing Reiki treatment, the energy goes where it is needed in the body and energy centers to promote balance, harmony and homeostasis in the mind, body and spirit.

Is there anyone who should avoid Reiki or Yoga?

  • Reiki is a safe and gentle energy healing therapy that’s appropriate for anyone, including pregnant women, babies, and seniors. Reiki is not a massage or body work and does not involve manipulation of the soft-tissues or muscles.

  • Disclaimer: You should always consult with your physician or other health care professional before beginning a yoga/exercise program to make sure that it is appropriate for your needs. A waiver will be required for any Yoga services we provide at Design and Wellness Center.

  • Always consult with your primary healthcare provider and notify them of any complementary or alternative healing methods/treatments you are using in addition to your established medical plan.

Are Energy healing, Reiki and Yoga aligned with my faith?

  • These practices are not associated with any religion and each are used across many healthcare settings across the world as they are now well-accepted and evidence-based holistic healing modalities.

  • All people of different backgrounds, faith beliefs and religions practice Energy healing, meditation, yoga and Reiki. Each practice complements any spiritual practice and doesn't teach any beliefs that would interfere with any other faith practice or religion.
